Macroeconomics

• The State Social Insurance Budget was executed with a surplus of 1.2528 billion lei in the first half of the year: revenues amounted to 27.5152 billion lei and expenditures to 26.2624 billion lei. Mandatory contributions rose by 9.4% year-on-year to 14.823 billion lei, while transfers from the state budget reached 12.1668 billion lei.

Energy and Resources

• Energocom proposes raising the gas tariff for household consumers by 45.2% — from 14.42 to 20.93 lei per cubic meter including VAT. The company attributes the request to an increase in the purchase price from 30 to 56 euros/MWh and accumulated tariff deviations of 106.8 million lei; ANRE will make the final decision after its analysis and consultations.

• The first 100-kilometer section of the 400 kV Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line has been energized and is undergoing testing for 24–48 hours. The 157-kilometer line will be able to transmit up to 630 MVA — more than 50% of the country’s peak consumption; commercial operation is planned for the end of August, and the project costs 61 million euros.

Foreign Economy and Trade

• The trade deficit reached 2.7955 billion euros in January–May, up 3.3% year-on-year. The deficit in trade with the EU increased by 6% to 1.4564 billion euros; the largest gaps remain with Romania — 643.8 million euros — and China — 559.2 million euros.

Government Regulation

• The Ministry of Finance launched the Budget Execution Portal in pilot mode, providing interactive real-time data on central and local authorities — from the presidential administration and government to district councils and city halls.

• In 2025, the Competition Council approved 11 state support measures. The largest included a 2 billion lei regional investment scheme for 2025–2034, 1.53 billion lei in support for public transport in Balti and 149.6 million lei in financing for the Radiocomunicații digital television multiplex; an in-depth review was launched for three notifications.

International Relations

• Moldova and Ukraine agreed to coordinate preparations of their power grids for winter, the protection of energy infrastructure and further integration into the EU power grid. The talks also covered cross-border cooperation and measures to strengthen regional energy resilience.

Investment and Projects

• A tender was announced for the repair of 37.8 km of the M1 highway in the Hincesti and Nisporeni districts, financed by the EBRD. The contract is divided into sections of 8.2 km and 29.6 km, the completion period is 915 days, and applications are accepted until September 30.

• A water-supply system worth 33.97 million lei is being built in the villages of Tomai and Sărata-Răzeși: approximately 45 km of networks, four reservoirs with a total capacity of 400 cubic meters and two disinfection stations. The project will provide water to more than 4.1 thousand residents and will make it possible to connect another 7.2 thousand people in the future.

Banks and Finance

• The banks’ loan portfolio amounted to 111.5067 billion lei at the end of May, up 1.8% over the month. Resident companies accounted for 61.2044 billion lei, or 54.9% of the portfolio, and resident individuals for 50.0268 billion lei; the share of loans in the national currency reached 81.6%.

Industry

• In 2025, Floarea Soarelui processed 58.6 thousand tons of sunflower seeds and 39 thousand tons of rapeseed, exporting 90% of its sunflower oil and all of its rapeseed oil. Sales rose by 11.3% to 1.495 billion lei, but the company posted a net loss of 162.6 million lei after a profit of 90.5 million lei a year earlier; no dividends will be paid for 2026 until the losses are covered.

Agriculture

• Nine agricultural producers from the Ialoveni, Stefan Voda, Cahul, Briceni and Soroca districts will each receive IFAD grants of up to $7.5 thousand for modern irrigation equipment. The support is intended for farms growing grapes, vegetables and fruit crops in areas vulnerable to drought.

Business and Companies

• Romanian technology integrator Quartz Matrix plans to expand cooperation with Moldova in IT, cloud solutions, IoT, energy efficiency and cybersecurity. The company has implemented more than 6,000 projects and considers Moldova, alongside Austria, the United Kingdom and Poland, one of the directions for further internationalization.

Social Economy

• The highest advertised salaries in southern Moldova reach 25 thousand lei a month: welders are offered 15–25 thousand lei, doctors up to 23 thousand lei, and Premier Energy Distribution electricians 18–20 thousand lei. Vacancies also include international-transport drivers, civil engineers and social-sector specialists.
