The total volume of Moldovan exports in 2024 decreased amid a decrease in re-export of goods - Dumitru Alaiba
This was stated by the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, noting that, as of 2016, Moldovan exports were in the amount of $2-2.7 billion per year, and in 2022 and 2023, largely due to re-export to Ukraine, the export mark of $4 billion was exceeded. "However, in 2024, the rate of export of domestic products and re-export of foreign products was no longer the same," Dumitru Alaiba emphasized. He recalled that in recent years, the authorities have made significant efforts to help as many entrepreneurs as possible engage in export. Thus, the suspension of taxes and quotas on Moldovan exports to the EU was extended for 7 agricultural products from Moldova: tomatoes, garlic, grapes, apples, cherries, plums and grape juice. Trade liberalization with the UK was extended by completely abolishing customs duties on agricultural products from Moldova for a period of 5 years. The Free Trade Agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states, which includes Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, was also ratified. This means access to some of the world's most prosperous markets with approximately 15 million consumers. "But to export more, we must produce more. That is why we pay special attention to attracting investment and increasing productivity," the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization emphasized. He noted that the Entrepreneurship Development Organization supports domestic producers through grants and internationalization, including through the 373 investment attraction program. The State Support Mechanism has been launched, which stimulates investment in the industry. A favorable tax policy supports the reinvestment of profits, as a result, in the first 9 months of 2024, investments by Moldovan companies increased by 12%, compared to the same period in 2023. "All this will allow us to gradually increase our production and export potential, but much more needs to be done in the coming period. We must accelerate the positive processes that we see and minimize the impact of the negative ones. We continue to work without making excuses," said Dumitru Alaiba.// 17.02.2025 — InfoMarket
