Moldova's total state debt in November 2023 increased by 328.1 million lei (+0.3%) and reached a new record high, exceeding 101.52 billion lei.

At the same time, it has grown by 6 billion 860.6 million lei (+7.2%) since the beginning of the year. According to the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, the growth of the total state debt in January-November 2023 was due to the increase of both internal and external state debt. In particular, the internal state debt increased by 4 billion 475.7 million lei (+13%) - from 34 billion 492.4 million lei (as of end-December 2022) to 38 billion 968.1 million lei (as of end-November 2023). At the same time, the external state debt in lei (MDL) terms increased by 2 billion 384.9 million lei (+4%) over the same period, from 60 billion 167.7 million lei to 62 billion 552.6 million lei. At the same time, the share of internal state debt in the total amount of Moldova's state debt in late November 2023 amounted to 38.4% (38.7% a month earlier), while the share of external public debt amounted to 61.6% (61.3%). In general, the share of the total state debt in GDP in late November 2023 is estimated at 32.5% against 34.5% at the end of 2022. At the same time, according to preliminary data, GDP in 2022 amounted to 274.21 billion lei, while at the end of 2023 it is projected at 312.4 billion lei. The Finance Ministry said that in late November 2023, the share of the state debt to be paid within 1 year amounted to 30.1% of the total volume, while the share of the internal state debt in the total volume of the state debt amounted to 38.4%. The share of state debt in a certain currency in the total volume of state debt in late 2023 amounted to 38.4% and the share of state debt with variable interest rate in the total volume of government debt at the same date - 49.6%.
