Moldova's GDP growth this year is expected to be around 1.5-2% - Dorin Recean.
Prime Minister said this while speaking on TV8. He recalled that last year's GDP decline amounted to 6.5%. "We had no economic growth in 2022, but a 6.5% decline. We continued to have all these crises, but this year we will register economic growth of about 1.5-2%. This growth will be generated by the latest developments in the economy, including the launched consumption growth, investment growth and credit growth," Dorin Recean said. He stressed that despite all the difficulties, a package of salary increases was approved this fall specifically for a number of categories of the population. "We have raised the salaries of medics by 15%. All our teachers, as well as auxiliary staff from schools were given lump-sum payments of 5,000 lei and 3,000 lei. Starting from January 1, 2024, we have a budget conditionally called "Investing for Children". Accordingly, we have a 15% increase in teachers' salaries, an increase in the lump-sum allowance at the birth of a child to 20,000. All this will lead to an increase in consumption. We can already see this; the push that we gave in October-November is already visible. And this push will continue already in the new budget of 2024. We are very clear in our response to macroeconomic factors. The inflation will remain around 9 per cent, while next year's inflation will be within the normal level of 5-6 per cent for Moldova," Prime Minister said. He also drew attention to the fact that Moldova is successfully mastering the biggest and richest market on the planet - the EU market. "And we already see how our external commercial relations are growing with the EU. And even the left bank of the Dniester now trades much more with the EU, whose share is about 60%," Dorin Recean said. Referring to the gas situation, he noted that the government has purchased enough gas for the country to go through the heating season very well. "We have integrated into the European electricity network, we have a long-term contract to provide electricity for the rest of the situations," Prime Minister said. According to him, the most important thing is for the population to have the lowest tariff. "When last year the question was whether we would have gas or not, then the emphasis was put differently. This year we have prepared and, accordingly, there is enough gas for us to successfully pass this season. We will use this gas, which will be provided to our population at a lower price," Dorin Recean said. // 19.12.2023 - InfoMarket.
