Moldovan Parliament passed in the first reading amendments to the customs policy for 2024 in order to simplify and standardize customs processes.

The draft amendments to some normative acts are aimed at adjusting the provisions of the Tax Code in order to improve its regulation and ensure full harmonization of the customs legislation with the EU legislation. Amendments will be made to 11 legislative acts, including the Customs Code, the Contravention Code, the Executive Code, the Law on Regulation of Entrepreneurial Activity by Permits and others. The amendments are mainly related to customs procedures and administration. In addition, in order to transpose EU legislation, a number of exemptions have been included that apply to certain categories of entities. The draft law also provides for amendments concerning the procedure for declaring goods imported to the territory of free economic zones, ports or airports, the sector of local public finances regarding the mechanism of distribution of revenues from taxes on natural resources between the state budget and local budgets, rules regulating the powers of customs officials with the right to examine cases of offenses.
