According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, in the first half of 2023, the average salary in Moldova before tax was 11,832 lei, which is 18.7% higher than last year in nominal terms, but in real terms the salary decreased by 1.3 %. In the public sector, the average salary was 9994.2 lei, which is 18.3% more than the same period last year in nominal terms, but in real terms - 1.6% less. In the real sector of the economy, the average salary was 12,472 lei (+18.7 in nominal terms and -1.3% in real terms). The highest salaries during this period were received in the ICT sector - 30,183 lei (2.6 times more than the national average), as well as in the financial and insurance sectors - 23,209 lei (2 times more). Also, the average level of salaries in the country is higher in the field of public administration (13,056 lei), in the health care and social protection system (12,853 lei), in other service sectors (14,516 lei). In other sectors of the economy, salaries do not reach the national average, and the lowest salaries are in agriculture, forestry, fish farming (7,360 lei) and in the arts, recreation and entertainment sector (8,817 lei). According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, the average cost of living in Moldova per person in the first half of 2023 amounted to 2867.4 lei, which, compared to the same period last year, is 15.4% more in nominal terms, and in real terms in terms - 4% less. The average pension in Moldova amounted to 3,671.05 lei as of October 1, 2023, and in nominal terms this is 16.7% more than the situation for the same period last year. At the end of the second quarter of 2023, the unemployment rate in the country was 3.8%, which is by 1.4 percentage points more than in the same quarter of 2022 (2.4%).
