It should be noted that the historical maximum of the total state debt of Moldova is 101 billion 171.4 million lei, which was reached at the end of July 2023. According to the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, the growth of the total state debt in January-August 2023 was due to the increase in the domestic public debt, which increased by 4 billion 460.3 million lei (+12.9%) - from 34 billion 492.4 million lei (at the end of December 2022) to 38 billion 952.7 million lei (at the end of August 2023). At the same time, the external state debt in lei (MDL) terms decreased over the same period by 2 billion 379.4 million lei (+3.9%) - from 60 billion 167.7 million to 57 billion 788.3 million lei. At the same time, the share of internal state debt debt in the total amount of state debt of Moldova at the end of August 2023 amounted to 40.3% (a month earlier - 38.2%), and the share of external state debt - 59.7% (61.8%). In general, the share of total state debt in GDP at the end of August 2023 was estimated at 32.7% against 34.5% at the end of 2022. At the same time, according to preliminary data, GDP in 2022 amounted to 274.21 billion lei, and at the end of 2023, it is projected at 309.5 billion lei. The Ministry of Finance noted that at the end of August 2023, the share of state debt payable within 1 year amounted to 29.1% of the total volume; the share of domestic state debt in the total volume of state debt was 40.3%. The share of external state debt in a certain currency in the total volume of external state debt at the end of August 2023 was 36.7%, and the share of state debt with a variable interest rate in the total volume of state debt as of the same date was 48.3%.
