
The first competition of EU grants for a total amount of 600 thousand euros for the development of entrepreneurial skills of young people has been announced in Moldova.
According to the Permanent Delegation of the European Union to Moldova, at least ten civil society organizations will receive this money within the framework of the Empowering Young Entrepreneurs in Moldova project with a total value of over 2.5 million euros. The project funded by the European Union started in December 2022, its duration is 3 years, and the total budget is 2 million 503.2 thousand euros, including EU co-financing of 2 million euros. The project is implemented by a consortium of organizations consisting of Help-Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe e.V (Germany), DEMOS, HOMECARE and Pro Cooperare Regională (Moldova). The project provides support for the initiatives of about 200 young people, providing them with the tools and skills to develop their own business. “By investing in young entrepreneurs, the European Union supports the sustainable and inclusive development of Moldova. This project is a firm commitment to help create new economic opportunities and strengthen civil society in Moldova,” said European Union Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks. Specific project activities include education, training, mentorship, networking and dissemination of best practices. In addition, the project also includes a special element in the form of sub-grants to initiate or support the development of small and micro enterprises among young people. Moldovan civil society organizations interested in promoting youth entrepreneurship can apply for participation in the first grant competition, which is open until August 16, 2023, 24:00 (local time). The total amount for this competition is 600 thousand euros. The approximate distribution of funds by geographical coverage is as follows: Northern region of Moldova (Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Falesti, Floresti, Riscani, Singerei, Briceni, Donduseni, Glodeni, Ocnita districts and Balti municipality): 180 thousand euros; Central region of Moldova and Transnistrian region (Anenii Noi, Calarasi, Criuleni, Dubasari, Hincesti, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Rezina, Straseni, Soldanesti, Telenesti, Ungheni regions, Chisinau municipality and Transnistrian region): 240 thousand euros; Southern region of Moldova (Leovo, Cantemir, Cahul, Taraclia, Basarabeasca, Cimislia, Causeni, Stefan Voda districts and ATU Gagauzia): 180 thousand euros.
