In the first quarter of 2023, Moldova directed $37.3 million (the equivalent of 700.6 million lei) to service the external public debt, which is $1.9 million (5.5%) more than in the same period of 2022.
As noted in the materials of the Ministry of Finance, this was mainly due to an increase in the amounts for servicing external public debt after the increase in 6-month Euribor rates and the rate of special drawing rights in international markets, as well as the receipt of new loans in 2022. At the same time, in January-March 2023, the largest share in the total servicing of Moldova's external public debt in the specified period fell on the following creditors: EBRD - 36.8% ($13.7 million); International Development Association (IDA) - 29.4% ($11 million); IMF - 16.1% ($6 million); EIB - 11.9% ($4.4 million); the US government - 2.3% ($0.9 million); Development Bank of the Council of Europe - 1.4% ($0.5 million), etc. Herewith, $25 million (the equivalent of 470.7 million lei) was allocated to repay the principal amount of the debt in the first quarter of 2023, which is $5.7 million (18.4%) less than in the same period of the previous year. And $12.2 million (the equivalent of 229.9 million lei) was transferred to pay interest as part of servicing the external public debt, which is $7.6 million (163.4%) more than in the same period of 2022. // 12.07.2023 — InfoMarket.
