
Annual inflation in Moldova increased particularly in October 2022; inflation for the last 12 months reached 34.62% against 33.97% in September.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported this, noting that monthly inflation in October was 2.62% and in January-October 2022 - 27.95%. At the same time, in October last year, monthly inflation was 2.12%, annual inflation (over the last 12 months) was then 8.81% and in January-October 2021 - 8.29%. According to the NBS, consumer prices in October 2022, compared to September 2022, increased by an average of 2.62%, against a background of rising food prices by 3.35%, non-food prices by 1.09%, as well as a 3.85% increase in tariffs for services provided to the population. According to official statistics, in particular, in October 2022, compared to the previous month, more pronounced increase in prices was observed for the following food products: vegetables - by 22.1%, eggs - by 8.3% and sugar - by 4.7%. At the same time, in the reporting period prices for vegetable oil decreased by 0.6%. As for non-food products, in October 2022, compared to the previous month, prices for footwear and clothing increased more significantly - by 1.5% and 1.3%, respectively. For services provided to the public, in October 2022, compared to September 2022, prices/tariffs increased by an average of 3.85%, with more pronounced increases in housing and utilities tariffs of 10.32% (especially for hot water services - by 31.6%, gas supply - by 27.3% and electricity - by 9.5%). According to the NBS, overall inflation in January-October 2022 was 27.95%, with food prices up 29.17%, non-food prices up 18.85%, and tariffs for services provided to the population up 40.16%.
