724 applications for projects worth 2.8 billion lei have been submitted under the "European Village" program.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spinu, said this at a press conference on the preliminary results of the contest of project proposals. Andrei Spinu noted that out of 724 projects submitted and assessed within the first contest stage, 717 were accepted, 2 rejected and 5 withdrawn by representatives of the local public administration. At the same time, 670 million lei have been allocated in the state budget for launching these projects. The missing funds, according to the minister, the authorities will request from external partners after the final technical evaluation of projects submitted by mayors. As many as 203 projects have been presented in the Northern region, 337 projects in the Center region, and 156 projects in the Southern region and 28 projects in Gagauzia. Andrei Spinu drew attention to the fact that among submitted projects, it is the modernization of water supply and sewerage systems that remains a priority for mayors and central authorities. More than 1 billion lei (46% of the cost of projects), there are applications for construction, expansion, modernization of water supply and sewerage systems for local state institutions. Other projects are related to street lighting, energy efficiency, rehabilitation of public buildings, green energy, renewable energy sources, infrastructure, etc. The minister also said that after receiving the report of the technical evaluation, a draft of the unified program document will be elaborated and submitted for approval to the National Coordination Council for Regional and Local Development, subsequently, to the Government. According to Spinu, these procedures will be carried out expeditiously, so that the first projects will be launched at the end of May.
