A new customs control zone (car terminal) is to be built in Moldova with the support of the European Investment Bank.
According to the Customs Service of Moldova, in particular, this was discussed during an online meeting that the Moldovan customs officers held with representatives of the European Investment Bank and the EU Delegation to Moldova. The parties discussed the external partners’ possibility to support the Customs Service in the construction of a new customs control zone. Representatives of the Customs Service explained that a new customs control zone with a permanent status needs to be created in Chisinau. This will reduce the burden on border customs posts, where 98% of all exports are currently processed, and offload the flow of trucks at existing inland customs posts, where most import customs declarations are processed. Discussions highlighted the importance of shifting customs clearance operations from the border to customs terminals, which would enable the institution to focus more on issues related to international trade facilitation and combating fraud. It is planned that the new car customs terminal will have customs warehouses, temporary storage warehouses, ramps for customs control of trucks and minibuses, parking, a sufficient number of access roads, as well as other infrastructure elements. // 02.02.2022 – InfoMarket
