Moldova and Romania are implementing a regional water supply project, which will ensure the supply of drinking water from beyond the Prut for at least 4 cities and 100 villages of our country with a population of 250 thousand people.

In particular, the construction of a water pipeline that will cross the Prut River and provide drinking water to the Nisporeni, Ungheni, Glodeni and Falesti districts of Moldova was discussed during a meeting held by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrei Spinu with representatives of the ApaVital Iași company, and also chairmen and vice-chairmen of the named districts and representatives of the "North" and "Center" Development Agencies. During the meeting, the Minister confirmed the necessity and importance of the implementation of this regional infrastructure project, which will provide citizens with quality water and services that meet the highest standards. Representatives of local authorities informed Andrei Spinu about the existing water supply networks in the districts, and together with the Minister analyzed the possibilities of building and connecting the transboundary water supply and sewerage operator ApaVital Iași to the water supply system. In particular, the Romanian company will build aqueducts crossing the Prut River for the supply of drinking water from the Iasi county (Romania) to the Nisporeni, Ungheni, Glodeni and Falesti districts of Moldova, between the following settlements: Macaresti (Romania) - Macaresti (Moldova), Sculeni (Romania) ) - Sculeni (Moldova), Ungheni (Romania) - Ungheni (Moldova) and in the Tabara region (Romania). ApaVital General Director Mihai Dorus noted that the project has already started; a tender has been announced for the construction of a water pipeline under the Prut and a protective dam near Macaresti. At this first stage, the project is intended for residents of 13 settlements of the Ungheni and Nisporeni districts, in particular, for about 30 thousand people. Moreover, the director stated that there is a necessary technical plan and funding sources for this project. The existing projects envisage 4 crossings (2 underground crossings and 2 upper crossings) between the following settlements Macaresti (Romania) - Macaresti (Moldova), Sculeni (Romania) - Sculeni (Moldova), Tabara (Romania) - Viilor (Moldova) and the crossing on the future bridge Ungheni (Romania) - Ungheni (Moldova). The start of work on the crossing over the Sculeni, which will be connected to the Gherman - Falesti aqueduct, will provide drinking water to 15 villages and the city of Falesti with a population of more than 40 thousand inhabitants. // 08.09.2021 – InfoMarket
