The previous record indicator of the internal public debt of Moldova was registered in late April 2021, when it amounted to 31 billion 893.2 million lei. Thus, during May, the internal public debt increased by 1 billion 811.2 million lei (+ 5.7%), and in general, in January-May 2021, the internal public debt of Moldova increased by 4 billion 468.8 million lei (+15 , 3%), amounting to 33 billion 704.4 million lei at the end of May 2021 against 29 billion 235.6 million lei at the end of December 2020.According to the Ministry of Finance, such a change in the domestic public debt occurred due to an increase in the issue of government securities by primary market. In particular, as of the end of May 2021, the debt on state securities issued in the primary market amounted to about 19 billion 013.83 million lei, which is 4 billion 452.8 million lei (30.6%) more than at the end of 2020 (14 billion 561.03 million lei), and it accounted for 56.4% of the total volume of the domestic public debt. At the same time, the debt on bonds issued for the execution by the Ministry of Finance of payment obligations arising from state guarantees of November 17, 2014 and April 1, 2015, at the end of May 2021 amounted to 12 billion 611.2 million lei, unchanged, versus the situation at the end of 2020. It accounted for 37.4% of the total amount of the internal public debt of Moldova at the end of May 2021.The debt on converted government securities at the end of May 2021 amounted to 2 billion 079.33 million lei, having increased, versus the situation at the end of 2020, by 15.94 million lei (+ 0.8%) and amounting to 6.2% of the total amount of domestic public debt at the end of April 2021. According to the Ministry of Finance, for 5 months in 2021, the weighted average interest rate on government securities sold at auctions amounted to 4.98% (by types of government securities: 91 days - 3.35%, 182 days - 4.94%, 364 days - 5.51%, 2 years - 5.49%, 3 years - 5.85%, 5 years - 6.1%, 7 years - 6.5%), which is 0.32 percentage points less than in the same period of the previous year.
