
The total public debt of Moldova in 2020 increased by 15.33 billion lei (+ 29.2%) and at the end of December reached a new record level of 67 billion 820.7 million lei.
The previous historical maximum of the total public debt of Moldova was 65 billion 961.5 million lei and was registered at the end of November 2020. Thus, in December 2020 alone, the total public debt increased by about 1.86 billion lei (+ 2.8%). According to the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, in particular, in general, in January-December 2020, the total state debt of Moldova increased by 15 billion 326.4 million lei (+ 29.2%), amounting to 67 billion 820.7 million lei at the end of December 2020. The increase in the total public debt in 2020 was due to the growth of both internal and external public debt, expressed in MDL. In particular, the domestic public debt in 2020 increased by 6 billion 067.4 million lei (+ 26.2%) - from 23 billion 168.2 million lei (at the end of December 2019) to 29 billion 235.6 million lei (at the end of December 2020). At the same time, the external public debt in MDL terms for the same period increased by 9 billion 259 million lei (+ 31.6%) - from 29 billion 326.1 million to 38 billion 585.1 million lei. At the same time, the share of the domestic public debt in the total amount of the public debt of Moldova at the end of 2020 was 43.1%, and the share of the external public debt was 56.9%. In general, the share of total public debt in GDP increased from 25% at the end of 2019 to 33.7% at the end of 2020. At the same time, according to operational data, GDP in 2019 amounted to 210 billion 098.8 million lei, and as of the end of 2020, it is expected to reach 201.4 billion lei (there is no official data from the NBS yet). The Ministry of Finance noted that at the end of December 2020, the share of public debt payable within one year amounted to 25.3% of the total, while the “Public Debt Management in the Medium Term (2019-2021)” Program provides parameters of 15-25%. The share of domestic public debt in the total volume of public debt was 43.1% (previously approved parameters: 35-50%), the proportion of external public debt in a specific currency in the total volume of external public debt at the end of December 2020 was 33.1% (approved parameters: 20-40%). The share of public debt with a variable interest rate in the total volume of public debt at the end of December 2020 was 36.9%, with the parameters of 25-40%. As InfoMarket agency reported earlier, the total public debt of Moldova in 2019 increased by 481.7 million lei (+ 0.9%), amounting to 52 billion 494.3 million lei. At the same time, the internal public debt in 2019 increased by 109.6 million lei (+ 0.5%) - from 23 billion 058.6 million lei (at the end of 2018) to 23 billion 168.2 million lei (at the end of 2019 year), while the external public debt in MDL terms increased by 372.1 million lei (+ 1.3%) over the same period - from 28 billion 954 million to 29 billion 326.1 million lei. // 27.01.2021 - InfoMarket.
