The NBM has issued a commemorative silver coin titled “Vasile Vasilache – 100th Anniversary of His Birth”
The National Bank’s (NBM) corresponding resolution was published on July 3 in Monitorul Oficial (the Official Journal of Moldova). The commemorative coin is part of the “Outstanding Personalities” series and is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Moldovan writer Vasile Vasilache. The coin, with a face value of 50 lei, is made of 999-fine silver. It weighs 16.5 g and has a diameter of 30 mm. The total mintage of the coin is 500 pieces. The reverse of the coin features a caricature-style portrait of Vasile Vasilache, the inscription “Ce va să fie, tot va fi. Viitorul dospește” (What is to be, will be. The future is already taking shape), the writer’s name, and his years of life (1926–2008). The commemorative coin comes with a certificate of authenticity and is sold to the public by the NBM, as well as by licensed banks, which set their own selling price for the coin, subject to a maximum markup of 3% of the price set by the NBM. In the economy, the commemorative coin is a legal tender and is accepted at its face value.
