The Moldovan leu (MDL) rotates now faster and more efficiently in the financial turnover, reflecting the dynamism and modernization of financial services - Anca Dragu
Governor of the National Bank of Moldova said this in her message on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the introduction of the Moldovan leu. She noted that at the end of the 18th century, at a crucial moment in the European history, Georges Danton asked a question, the profound essence of which is strikingly relevant today: can we wear our motherland on the soles of our shoes? As Anca Dragu emphasized, the national identity - a topic for reflection in our time - is constructed every day, by every citizen. And the currency, the Moldovan leu, is a witness of the transformations that Moldova has undergone, from independence to European integration. The NBM Governor noted that, together with the society, the national currency is constantly evolving, responding to the challenges of the modern economy, adapting to the accelerated pace of transformation of information technologies. Anca Dragu emphasized that the National Bank makes every effort to pave the way for secure and modern digital payment solutions, which are present today in Europe and all over the world. She said that Moldova is part of a big European family and is already visibly present on the digitalization map. A concrete example is the success of the instant payment solution - MIA. Launched in March this year, the MIA application has become an indispensable tool for cashless payments in just a few months. Today, every 5th active citizen of Moldova uses this innovative solution. “The Moldovan leu now moves faster and more efficiently through the financial circle, reflecting the dynamism and modernization of financial services. By implementing MIA, Moldova demonstrates that it can be a regional leader, whose efficiency is confirmed by the integration of digital technologies, solutions adapted to the current needs of citizens and the business environment. Through its role and activity, the National Bank ensures that the Moldovan leu remains not only a symbol of national identity, but also a symbol of progress and stability,” Anca Dragu emphasized. “Today we are at the crossroads of tradition and innovation, and the Moldovan leu continues to accompany us in our daily life and to write our history, our story. I wish this day to be an opportunity to look with confidence into the future, in which Moldova will find its natural place in the European Union, a space of peace, prosperity and opportunities for every citizen,” she said. // 29.11.2024 - InfoMarket
