Presentation of identity documents during currency exchange operations will be mandatory in Moldova, regardless of the amount.
Chairman of the Commission for Economy, Budget and Finance, Radu Marian, announced this on his social network page. He noted that the parliament had recently adopted amendments to the anti-money laundering law, according to which all those willing to exchange currency amounting to over 10,000 lei should present an identity document. At the same time, Radu Marian said that when analyzing the implementation of the law, it was found that this norm can be circumvented in many ways, including by issuing many tax receipts for amounts over 10,000 lei. "To be more sure that this measure works, I have registered an amendment that will stipulate that the presentation of identity documents during currency exchange operations becomes mandatory, regardless of the amount," Radu Marian emphasized. According to him, a similar practice exists all over Europe, including Romania, where an identity document is requested regardless of the amount exchanged. "This is an important amendment in the context of our efforts to fight the illegal financing of criminal groups disguised as political parties," Radu Marian wrote. // 16.08.2023 - InfoMarket.
