The volume of currency exchange operations without presentation of identity documents has been reduced in Moldova from 200 thousand to 10 thousand lei.

This is provided for by relevant amendments to the law on preventing and combating money-laundering and financing of terrorism, passed by the parliament in the second reading. According to the amendments, currency exchange transactions in cash exceeding 10,000 lei (previously the threshold was 200,000 lei) may be performed upon presentation of identity documents and registration by the foreign exchange entity of the information contained in the documents. As the chairman of the Economy, Budget and Finance Commission Radu Marian explained, the authorities have limited the amount of currency exchange without identity documents in order, among other things, to combat money laundering and illicit financing in a situation when Moldova is in a hybrid war. Another goal is to combat the shadow economy and bring it into the legal field. Radu Marian also noted that in neighboring Romania it is forbidden to exchange any amount of currency without documents. // 03.04.2023 - InfoMarket.
