The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) has put two commemorative coins into circulation

A silver commemorative coin entitled “Paul Gore – 150th anniversary of his birth” has been issued as part of the “Outstanding Personalities” series. It has a face value of 50 lei. The coin weighs 16.5 grams and has a diameter of 3 cm. It has been issued in a limited edition of 250 copies. The reverse side of the coin features a portrait of Paul Gore, his family coat of arms, and the inscription “Paul Gore” and “150 de ani de la naștere” in a semicircle. The reverse side of the coin features the coat of arms of Moldova, as well as information about the composition, weight, and face value. Paul Gore was a Moldovan heraldist, historian, and politician, a descendant of an ancient boyar aristocratic family. The “Red Book of the Republic of Moldova” series has been expanded with a silver coin featuring a marsh owl. The reverse of the coin depicts an owl sitting upright on a tree stump against a landscape stylized with curved lines and the silhouette of a flying bird. The coin weighs 22 grams and has a diameter of 3.5 cm. It has been issued in a limited edition of 500 pieces. Both coins can be used as legal tender and for numismatic purposes. Licensed banks independently set the sale price of the commemorative coin, which cannot exceed 3% of the price set by the National Bank.
