The EBRD will provide Victoriabank with a new loan of 5 million euros to support lending to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises of Moldova.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said this in a statement. The loan agreement was signed in Chisinau by EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso and Victoriabank CB Board Chairman Levon Khanikyan in the presence of EU Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks. This loan will help Moldovan companies across the country to become more competitive locally and internationally. This support is part of a joint program, the EU4Business-EBRD credit line, under which the EBRD offers financing to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) through partner financial institutions and the EU complements this offer with incentive grants under the EU4Business initiative. Borrowers will be able to invest in modern equipment and production modernization, product quality improvement, health and safety measures and best environmental practices, as well as in resource efficiency. It is expected that at least 70% of the loan will be used to finance green technologies. The loan is complemented by EU grant financing, providing incentive payments for successful investment projects for Victoriabank borrowers, as well as advisory support on project implementation for Victoriabank and its clients. Moldova was granted candidate country status for EU accession in June 2022. The new EBRD financing is expected to contribute to the EU Economic and Investment Plan's target of supporting MSMEs in Moldova. Victoriabank is the third largest commercial bank in Moldova. It is majority owned by VB Investment Holding B.V., the Netherlands, which in turn is owned by Banca Transilvania, Romania and the EBRD. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is a major institutional investor in Moldova. Since the beginning of its activity in the country, the bank has invested more than 2 billion euros in 164 projects in the financial, agri-industrial, energy, infrastructure and manufacturing sectors in Moldova. //26.07.2023 - InfoMarket.
