
The balance of deposits in the banking sector of Moldova increased in 2022 by 4.9 billion lei (+5.4%) to 95 billion lei.
The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) reported this while assessing the financial situation in the banking sector last year. The NBM noted that deposits of individuals made 62.1% of all deposits, deposits of legal entities - 37.1%, and those of banks - 0.8%. The overall growth of the balance of deposits in 2022 led to the increase of deposits of individuals by 3.1 billion lei (+5.5%) - to 59 billion lei, of legal entities deposits - by 1.2 billion lei (+3.4%) - to 35.2 billion lei and of bank deposits - by 618.8 million lei (5.1 times) - to 766.9 million lei. Out of the total volume of deposits, 60% were lei (MDL) deposits, the balance of which in 2022 increased by 5.3 billion lei (+10.3%) as compared to the end of the previous year and amounted to 57 billion lei by the end of 2022. Deposits in foreign currency accounted for 40% of the total volume of deposits and their balance decreased during the reporting period by 0.4 billion lei (-1.1%), amounting to 37.9 billion lei (withdrawal of deposits in foreign currency - the equivalent of 1.7 billion lei, positive revaluation of deposits in foreign currency - 1.2 billion lei). // 14.03.2023 – InfoMarket
