During a briefing on Monday, the President of the National Bank, Octavian Armasu, noted that the coin is dedicated to the invaluable work of doctors who in 2020 selflessly fought against the COVID-19 pandemic and saved lives. It is worth noting that 65 health workers have died in Moldova from complications caused by COVID-19. According to Armasu, commemorative coins issued in honor of doctors will be handed over to medical institutions that were among the first to be involved in the treatment of patients with COVID-19: Institute of Emergency Medical Care, Toma Ciorba Clinical Infectious Disease Hospital, Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital, and the COVID-19 Center at Moldexpo. The President of the National Bank said that the commemorative coin weighing 16.5 grams, 3 cm in diameter was made of silver and issued in a circulation of 1.5 thousand pieces. It can be used as a means of payment and for numismatic purposes on the territory of Moldova. The value of the coin is 50 lei. The obverse of the coin depicts two doctors against the background of the map of Moldova, and the inscription “Medicul meu - eroul meu” (My Doctor is My Hero) is engraved on the left. Commemorative coins will be sold through the NBM and licensed banks. The sale price of commemorative coins in banks should not exceed by more than 3% the price set by the NBM.
