Victor Negrescu noted that following the results of the Hungarian parliamentary elections, as Vice-President of the European Parliament responsible for relations with Moldova, he sent a letter to European Council President António Costa requesting the launch of cluster negotiations on Moldova's accession to the EU. He emphasized that the Hungarian elections open new opportunities for this decision, which had been delayed for too long due to the unanimity principle and the opposition of the previous anti-European and pro-Russian government in Budapest. "The European Council's decision could be taken at the first official meeting in June or could be agreed immediately at ambassadorial level. Moldova has made real progress and demonstrated its commitment to the European path.
