On April 13 - 18, a delegation from the Moldovan government and the National Bank of Moldova will participate in the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the IMF in Washington, D.C., where they will hold talks on a new cooperation program between the country and the Fund
According to the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), the delegation is led by the NBM Governor Anca Dragu and Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilita. The World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings taking place in Washington serve as a platform for international dialogue on economic and financial policy and provide Moldova with an opportunity to strengthen its partnership with leading global financial institutions. At the same time, this year’s meetings are taking place in a rapidly changing geopolitical context and will allow our country to advance national priorities, including European integration goals. The visit’s agenda in Washington includes a series of meetings with representatives of the IMF, the World Bank, the EBRD, and other international financial organizations and groups. The high-level dialogue with the IMF is taking place in the context of the Moldovan authorities’ request to launch a new three-year program with the Fund that does not include a financial component. The decision to opt for a non-financial instrument reflects the improvement in Moldova’s macroeconomic situation, which no longer justifies the need for emergency financing. “Continued cooperation with the IMF is a strategic element of Moldova’s European path and will help the national authorities accelerate key reforms and attract foreign investment,” emphasized Anca Dragu, Governor of the NBM. She noted the importance of structural reforms being implemented at the national level, the role of the continuous development of the financial and banking system, and the strengthening of governance—actions that contribute to the creation of a predictable, sustainable economic and financial environment in line with the best international standards. “Thanks to these consistent actions, Moldova is demonstrating that it meets the criteria of a future EU member state and is positioning itself as a reliable partner on the international stage,” emphasized the NBM Governor. The agenda for the trip to Washington also includes discussions on national macroeconomic development and prospects, the implementation of recommendations from the 2025 Financial Sector Assessment Program, strengthening the independence of the NBM and the institution’s role in the European integration process, including the implementation of the Reform Program linked to Moldova’s Growth Plan for 2025–2027. As part of her participation in the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the IMF, NBM Governor Anca Dragu will meet with a number of high-ranking representatives of the IMF and the World Bank. The World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings provide a framework for strategic dialogue on global economic and financial policy, as well as an opportunity for Moldovan authorities to coordinate their efforts to ensure macroeconomic stability and implement structural reforms. // 14.04.2026 – InfoMarket.
