The World Bank will provide Moldova with a loan of €83.3 million and a grant of $8 million to support economic opportunities and climate transition

According to the parliament's press service, this is provided for in two agreements signed by our country with the International Development Association and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, members of the World Bank Group, and ratified by the Foreign Policy and European Integration Committee. In particular, the International Development Association will provide Moldova with a loan of €46.3 million for budget support. The money will be disbursed in a single tranche, and the loan will be repaid over 25 years, including a 5-year grace period. At the same time, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide Moldova with a loan of €37 million and a grant of $8 million. The loan will have a maturity of up to 30 years, including a 5-year grace period. Both financings are subject to the fulfillment of 11 conditions aimed at enhancing private sector competitiveness, improving employment opportunities and access to quality education, as well as strengthening energy security and promoting climate-smart agriculture. The funds are intended for the implementation of the “Moldova Supporting Economic Opportunities and Climate Transition Development Policy Operation” program. The ratification of the two agreements will be submitted for consideration at the plenary session of parliament. Since Moldova joined the World Bank in 1992, over $2.3 billion has been allocated to more than 70 operations in our country.
