Moldova joins the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to develop solar energy production and use capabilities
Specifically, the Moldovan Parliament ratified the Framework Agreement on the Establishment of the International Solar Alliance, adopted in Marrakesh on November 15, 2016. ISA provides a special platform for cooperation between countries rich in solar resources. In this way, the global community, including governments, international institutions, corporations, and other stakeholders, can contribute to the common goal of increasing the use of solar energy. Currently, the International Solar Alliance has nine comprehensive programs, each focusing on a specific application that could contribute to the large-scale implementation of solar energy solutions. According to the Moldovan authorities, our country's participation in the ISA will help strengthen relations between relevant government agencies and private sector companies to develop solar energy production and use. Moldova has set a number of renewable energy targets to reduce its dependence on energy imports and promote greater sustainability of the national energy system. At the same time, solar energy is one of the most important domestic resources. This year, the installed capacity of all sources for electricity production in Moldova reached 657 megawatts. According to the Ministry of Energy, ISA is a global initiative bringing together more than 110 countries with the aim of promoting the use of solar energy, attracting investment in the renewable energy sector, and facilitating access to innovative technologies. By joining the alliance, Moldova will be able to take advantage of new opportunities for international cooperation, technical assistance, training, and financing for the development of the solar sector. The benefits of ISA membership for Moldova include: access to international financing for solar energy projects and green energy infrastructure; training of specialists through scholarships and training programs under the ITEC Scheme; participation in strategic initiatives such as the development of mini-grids, solar-powered pumping systems, and E-Mobility solutions; support in the development of public policy on the integration of solar energy into the national energy balance; connecting to a global network of experts, institutions, and companies in the field of renewable energy. ISA supports member states through a diversified program approach that includes the development of solar mini-grids, the promotion of solar thermal systems, solar-powered electric mobility, and the acceleration of green hydrogen use. ISA is expected to support our country in developing 510 MW of new renewable energy capacity, a significant portion of which will come from solar sources. This is part of the national strategy to reduce energy import dependency and cut carbon emissions. // 20.06.2025 — InfoMarket
