The EU Council has extended the EU Partnership Mission in Moldova for another 2 years, until 31 May 2027, with a budget of over €19.8 million
In addition, the EU Council also decided to adjust the mandate of the mission to increase the provision of strategic advice to the Moldovan authorities in the security sphere. The decision was taken following the Strategic Review of the mission. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas noted that the EU is extending the Partnership Mission in Moldova for another 2 years, with support of almost €20 million. "Through our mission, we have helped Moldova strengthen its cyber security and improve its defence against hybrid threats. The EU's support for a stronger and more resilient Moldova is an investment in our own security, as well as in Moldova's path to EU membership," she said. The EU Partnership Mission in Moldova was established in April 2023, initially for a period of 2 years, with the aim of enhancing the resilience of the country's security sector in the areas of crisis management and hybrid threats, including cyber security and countering foreign information manipulation and interference. To this end, the mission provides strategic advice on the development of strategies and policies, and identifies organisational, training and equipment needs. The mission also has a project cell responsible for defining and implementing projects in the above-mentioned areas, in close cooperation with other like-minded actors. The Head of Mission is Cosmin Dinescu, and the Civilian Operations Commander is Stefano Tomat, Managing Director of the Civilian Operational Headquarters (CivOpsHQ). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova welcomed the decision of the Council of the European Union to extend the mandate of the EU Partnership Mission in our country for 2 years, noting that during its activities, which began in May 2023, this mission has become a reliable partner of the Moldovan authorities in strengthening the capacity to manage various crises and counter hybrid threats, including those related to cybersecurity and the fight against disinformation. "We thank the European Union and the EU Partnership Mission in Moldova for the support provided to Moldova in 2023-2025. Specific examples of cooperation include contribution to the development of the concept of the National Crisis Management Center, technical assistance to the Cybersecurity Agency, as well as providing a number of national authorities with the necessary equipment to more effectively carry out their functional responsibilities, with an emphasis on institutional resilience in the face of modern challenges and hybrid threats, in line with the principles of good democratic governance," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova noted. They expressed confidence that the results obtained at this stage will become a solid foundation for further cooperation in 2025–2027, thereby contributing to increasing the resilience of our country in the face of existing and future challenges. // 21.05.2025 — InfoMarket
