Moldova and Ukraine will be fully connected to the European electricity market by 2027 - European Commission
The EC said this after announcing in Kyiv on Monday a new aid package for Ukraine aimed at supporting the protection of its energy system, strengthening the security of its energy infrastructure and ensuring full integration into the EU energy market. According to a statement from the European Commission, the proposed package will ensure full integration of the Ukrainian electricity market with the EU market by early 2027, including Moldova, and will facilitate Ukraine's further integration into the EU gas sector, provided significant market reforms are implemented. In addition, the package will ensure improved security of energy supply for Ukraine, Moldova and the region as a whole, while the European Commission will assist in the purchase of the necessary volume of gas. As noted, Ukraine's full integration into the EU energy market will be an important element of the common security that the EU can provide, as well as a key factor for economic recovery, as energy security is the basis for attracting investment in the country. The package of measures proposed to Ukraine includes the following aspects: integration of the Ukrainian electricity market with the EU market until spring 2027, including with Moldova, as well as further integration into the EU gas sector; assistance in financing gas purchases, which will create sufficient reserves to ensure security of supply, both for Ukraine and for the entire region; and accelerated investment in renewable energy, which will provide up to 1.5 GW of additional capacity, 25% more than Ukraine's current renewable energy capacity.
