Moldova to create a National Information and Communication System for Market Surveillance at a total cost of at least 3 million lei
The government approved at a meeting on Wednesday the draft concept of the new system, which is meant to become an important digital tool for the protection of citizens and the proper functioning of the market. The system will allow centralizing all the information about the products on the market, the controls carried out and the measures applied. Competent authorities will have quick access to updated data, which will allow them to quickly identify and recall non-compliant products. The new system will provide more effective supervision of non-food products to ensure their compliance with safety standards, enable immediate identification of non-compliant products and take action before they reach consumers. Through the system, information will be shared between agencies, reducing bureaucracy and time wasted on unnecessary inspections. Thanks to the fine-tuned system, risks arising from unsafe or non-compliant products will be minimized. It is worth noting that in 2018, the government already approved the concept of a similar system, but it was never implemented in 2019-2023, also due to lack of funds. At the same time, interdepartmental information exchange was established. For example, in 2023, the Customs Service notified 43 cases of non-compliant toys imported into the country. The sources of funding for the new system have not yet been identified, but negotiations are underway with potential donors to provide technical and financial assistance in developing the terms of reference and creating software for the National Information and Communication System for Market Surveillance. // 12.02.2025 - InfoMarket
