A delegation of the National Bank of Moldova, headed by its President Anca Dragu, is participating in a joint international conference organized by the European Central Bank and the European Banking Authority (EBA)
The event is taking place on September 3-4 in Frankfurt am Main (Germany), and the purpose of this conference is to examine aspects of international cooperation in the field of banking supervision, focusing on the results achieved and future challenges in this area. According to the NBM, the event brought together leading representatives of banking supervision and financial regulation, who analyze methods for strengthening international cooperation to increase resilience in the face of global challenges. The main topics discussed include financial supervision in the turbulent context of international markets, climate and environmental risk management, as well as risks related to IT technologies and the non-banking sector. The NBM delegation headed by Anca Dragu also includes NBM Vice Presidents Constantin Schendra and Petru Rotaru. They are participating in bilateral discussions that are taking place on the sidelines of the event. During the conference, the NBM representatives touched upon important topics of Moldova’s accession process to the European Union – integration into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), instant payments and open banking. They also discussed the macroeconomic evolution and monetary policy measures of the National Bank of Moldova as factors contributing to the reduction of inflation, with an emphasis on the development of a sustainable financial system in Moldova. The NBM representatives also touched upon such topics as the transparency of the banking sector in terms of EU requirements and the modernization of IT platforms to prevent money laundering risks. At the same time, the discussions concerned the development of the regulatory and supervisory framework for the insurance sector, including the transposition of the requirements of the EU Solvency II Directive and the non-bank credit sector, for which the NBM became the competent authority a year ago. “The participation of the NBM in this conference underlines Moldova’s aspiration to meet the requirements for accession to the European Union and to comply with European standards in the field of banking supervision and regulation. "The event offers us valuable opportunities to expand cooperation and exchange experiences with the financial authorities of the participating countries," said President Anca Dragu. As noted by the NBM, in the process of Moldova's accession to the European Union, the National Bank plays a key role in the sections of the negotiations concerning the free movement of capital, financial services, as well as economic and monetary policy. // 03.09.2024 – InfoMarket.
