"Addressing the Consequences of the Energy Crisis" EU program with a total grant assistance budget of 13 million euros is being successfully implemented in Moldova

According to the Ministry of Energy, the program, implemented by the UNDP with the financial support of the European Union, helped Moldova's residents overcome the energy crisis. It was initiated at a difficult time for the country. "Rising natural gas and electricity prices caused both by recent developments in regional markets and the recovery of the post-pandemic economy, as well as the war in Ukraine, prompted us to act quickly to overcome the energy crisis since then. Thanks to the 13 million euros non-refundable investment, we have managed to take important steps towards a greener and more energy sustainable country. And after 3 years of continuous efforts, we are proud to share the direct impact we are having on communities," the Ministry of Energy said. It specified that thanks to the establishment of the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund in 2022, more than 800 thousand energy vulnerable households received compensation on their bills. 219 energy vulnerable households, of which 74 are family-type orphanages, are now benefiting from home energy efficiency solutions under the Green House pilot initiative. 445 families from 4 houses in Chisinau are saving up to 30% in their heat bills by switching to a horizontal heat distribution system. Today, 5 district hospitals generate electricity through photovoltaic panels with a total installed capacity of 600 kW. 25 buildings in Chisinau, Balti, Straseni, Ceadir-Lunga and 6 district hospitals have undergone energy audits, on the basis of which projects to improve their energy efficiency will be implemented. 5 educational institutions of the country were equipped with the most modern technologies and equipment for energy training. Almost 600 specialists were trained in energy labeling, environmental design, green procurement, environmental design and energy audits. 40 journalists were trained on energy topics, and 11 media outlets received grants to cover energy-related topics and combat myths. Support was provided for the development of three strategic documents, including the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, 34 legislative/regulatory acts and multiple methodologies to make our country's energy sector more sustainable. Young people were involved in promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy through the Sun Dă-i Fest, Energel summer camps, thematic educational shows organized in 13 localities and a drawing contest in which more than 370 young people participated. "We thank the partners and every community member who lent a shoulder to the implementation of this program. We are one step closer to achieving our sustainable development and resilience goals, contributing to a just energy transition for all Moldovan citizens," the Energy Ministry said. // 01.08.2024 – InfoMarket
