Italy fully supports Moldova's accession to the EU and is ready to deepen bilateral cooperation with it in the fields of trade, investment, energy and other areas.
This is stated in the Joint Declaration in support of Moldova’s accession to the EU, which was signed on June 18 in Chisinau by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Edmondo Cirielli in the presence of the presidents of the two countries, Maia Sandu and Sergio Mattarella. In the document, the parties confirmed their strong commitment to the common values and principles that unite our countries: democracy, human rights, the rule of law, peace and prosperity for all our citizens. Recognizing Moldova's European aspirations and its significant efforts to implement comprehensive reforms, Italy recognized the progress made in strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law to promote economic development and improve the lives of citizens. It is emphasized that Moldova has taken significant steps on its European path, including the full implementation of the 9 recommendations of the European Commission, and has also made progress in the implementation of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) with the European Union. These efforts demonstrate Moldova's determination and political will to live up to European standards and values. The joint statement said that EU enlargement is an investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity. This is a merit-based approach. Moldova is committed to an accelerated reform program, recognizing the importance of moving quickly in the current geopolitical context. Italy fully supports Moldova's accession to the European Union, which will contribute to stability, security and prosperity of the entire European continent. “We are confident that Moldova’s integration into the EU will bring mutual benefits, stimulating economic growth, cultural exchange and closer political cooperation,” the document says. It notes that Italy recognizes Moldova’s significant contribution to regional and European security. “We are committed to deepening our bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, security, education and cultural exchanges, further strengthening the ties between our nations. We also want to highlight the significant role of the Moldovan community in Italy, which serves as a bridge between our countries. Their hard work benefits both economies, while promoting mutual understanding and strong ties,” said a joint statement from Moldova and Italy.// 18.06.2024 — InfoMarket.
