
The 8th meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Council will be held in Brussels on May 21.
According to the EU Council, the meeting will be chaired by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. The Moldovan delegation will be headed by Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean. European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi will also take part in the event. The meeting is the first since the European Council decided to start negotiations on Moldova's accession to the EU, and will start with a discussion of bilateral relations, focusing on Moldova's EU accession process, as well as political dialogue and reforms, especially in the fields of justice, freedom and security. The EU and Moldovan delegations will subsequently continue exchanging information on cooperation and convergence in the field of foreign and security policy, as well as economic and sectoral cooperation, in particular in the fields of energy, trade and related issues. The Association Council will also discuss global and regional issues. According to the European Integration Office, the 8th meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Council will discuss the development of relations between Moldova and the European Union through the implementation of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, as well as the preparations for the official opening of the accession negotiations. The agenda of the meeting includes discussions on political dialog and reforms, justice, freedom and security, cooperation and rapprochement in the field of foreign and security policy, as well as economic and sectoral cooperation, with the energy and trade sectors in the foreground. Two important documents for Moldova will be signed within the Association Council: the Moldova-EU Partnership in the security and defense sector and the agreement on Moldova's participation in the Employment and Social Innovation Programme (EaSI), which will allow accessing funds for the implementation of social policies. // 20.05.2024 – InfoMarket
