Moldova: public service providers will actively implement cybersecurity measures in their field of activity.

This is stipulated by the relevant amendments to the current legislation, passed the Parliament in the second reading to strengthen cybersecurity at the national level. They will take effect on January 1, 2025. The authors of the bill noted that many sectors are currently exposed to cyber threats, which requires strengthening the relevant sphere, protection and security of networks and information systems at the national level. The legislative changes target critical sectors that provide national services in health, energy, transportation, banking, postal and courier services, waste management, water and sanitation, food safety, etc. Thus, service providers in the relevant sectors will have to implement robust cybersecurity measures with a detailed oversight and control structure. The changes will affect the way public and private organizations manage cyber risks, provide better protection against cyber threats and increase the resilience of national infrastructure. Twenty-two regulations will have to be adjusted to ensure that the Cybersecurity Act and industry laws governing service providers are interconnected. The draft law was developed by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization with the support of the European Commission-funded project "Moldova Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance. The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization stated that this initiative is a response to the increasingly complex requirements of the digital environment and the need to comply with European standards. Through the measures contained in the law, Moldova will fulfill its obligations to ensure a safe and secure digital space for all its citizens. // 21.03.2024 – InfoMarket
