Moldova's GDP in 2023, according to preliminary data, will reach 300.42 billion lei, up by 0.7% compared to 2022.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported this, noting that, according to preliminary estimates, GDP in Q4 2023 amounted to 83.6 billion lei in current market prices, increasing in real terms by 0.2% compared to Q4 2022. At the same time, in Q4 2023, in comparable prices, it remained at the level of Q3 2023, taking into account seasonal adjustments. According to the NBS, a positive impact on GDP dynamics in 2023, compared to 2022, had the following types of economic activities: Agriculture, forestry and fisheries (provided GDP growth of 2.6%), with a 7.6% share in GDP formation and a 31.9% increase in gross value added (GVA) for the respective activities; Health care and social assistance (+0.7%), with a share of 6% in GDP formation and GVA growth by 12.6% in relevant types of activities; Information and communication (+0.5%) with a share of 6.7% in GDP formation and GVA growth by 7.5% in relevant types of activities. At the same time, the following types of activities, in particular, had a negative impact on the evolution of GDP in the reporting period: Processing Industry (caused a 1.1% decline in GDP), with a share of 8.2% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in GVA by 11.6%; Construction (-1%), with a share of 6.2% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in GVA by 13.8%; Wholesale and retail trade; maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-0.6%), with a share of 16.5% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in GVA by 3.5%; Transportation and storage (-0.4%), with a share of 4.8% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in GVA by 8.4%. According to the NBS, net taxes on products with a share of 13.9% in GDP formation contributed 0.7% to the decline in GDP, with a decline of 4.7%. The NBS said that in terms of utilization categories, net exports of goods and services made a positive contribution to GDP dynamics in 2023, mainly contributing 5.8% to GDP growth, which is the result of a 5.1% increase in exports of goods and services while imports of goods and services declined by 5.1%. At the same time, the decrease in GDP was mainly due to: final consumption of public administration (caused a decrease in GDP by 0.6%), with a share of 18.1% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in volume by 3.3%; final consumption of households (-0.4%), with a share of 84.1% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in volume by 0.5%; gross fixed capital formation (-0.3%), with a share of 19.7% in the formation of GDP and a decrease in volume by 1.3%. // 16.03.2024 - InfoMarket.
