Maria Hurduc, General Director of the Romanian research platform Modern Buyer announced this at the Retail & FMCG Market in Moldova forum, presenting the "Map of Modern Retail in Moldova-2024". According to the study 816 outlets in the country are operated by 18 retail chains, with 58% of all supermarkets concentrated in Chisinau. Linella, Local, Family Market and Rogob are the retail chains that have grown the most in 2023. According to the presented map, in food retailing the largest brand is Linella (Super Linella, Express Linella and Fidesco chain stores taken over by the company) - 175 stores. Next follow: Alcomarket - 67, Local - 60, Rogob - 59, Family Market - 30, Jardi - 26, Supermarket Nr1 - 17, Merci Gastronome - 16, Fourchette - 11, Kaufland - 9, Toto Market - 9, Green Hills - 7, Pegas - 7, Ocean Fish - 6, Velmart - 4, Bonus - 4, Metro - 3, Bravo - 2, Primul - 2, Slavena - 2. In the industrial goods category, the leaders are Casa Curata - 114 markets, Zolusca - 74, Imparatia Cureteniei - 45, Alina Cosmetic - 30, Bonita - 23, Avocado - 13. This year, the retail map includes gas stations, which have become a separate sales channel in Moldova and offer a wide range of goods through 372 outlets: Lukoil - 103 outlets, Rompetrol - 78, Vento - 75, Petrom - 69, Bemol - 41, Avante - 6. According to Maria Hurduc, in 2022, the turnover of the biggest 11 retail companies amounted to 21.01 billion lei, which is almost 16% more than in 2021. Moldretail Group (Linella, Slavena) remains the market leader, with sales revenues exceeding 8.2 billion lei, Metro Cash&Carry - 3 billion lei, 47th Parallel - 2.2 billion lei, Kaufland - 2.1 billion lei, Imensitate (Local and Bonus chain) - 1.88 billion lei, Vistarcom (Green Hills, Velmart) - 1.17 billion lei. Next are Alimer Comert (Family Market), Fourchette-M (Fourchette, Toto Market), Pegas and others. The Romanian expert emphasized that during the year all market leaders registered double-digit sales growth, while the first 4 leaders did not change compared to the previous year. Moldretail Group (309.4 million lei) and 47th Parallel (104.5 million lei) made the biggest profit, while Kaufland suffered losses of 293.1 million lei. The largest number of employees is in the retail chains of Moldretail Group (more than 4 thousand people) and in the No. 1 chain (more than 1.1 thousand).
