The EBRD to provide a grant of 600 thousand euros for the implementation of the "Solid Waste in Moldova" project.

The EBRD to provide a grant of 600 thousand euros for the implementation of the "Solid Waste in Moldova" project.

This is stipulated by the respective grant agreement between the Ministry of Environment of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on financing technical assistance of 600 thousand euros for the implementation of the "Solid Waste in Moldova" project, which was ratified by the Moldovan Parliament. It is planned that the EBRD grant of 600 thousand euros will be used to partially finance consulting services for the implementation of the project in 3 regions on waste management. In particular, the EBRD grant will finance the following consulting services: assistance in capacity building of the project implementation unit; assistance in public procurement, tendering and contract implementation; assistance in meeting compliance and reporting obligations in accordance with financial documents; support for environmental and social compliance. The main beneficiaries of the project will be local authorities and population, public institutions and private sector in the waste management regions. The "Solid Waste in Moldova" project is focused on the implementation of the national program of infrastructure development related to the solid waste management process. The project is aimed at construction of solid waste management infrastructure, procurement of equipment and machinery for transportation, sorting, processing and composting of waste. The project will be implemented in phases, as subprojects are prepared. Earlier, Moldova signed a credit agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which provides for a 25-million-euro loan to finance the "Solid Waste in Moldova" project. Thus, a national program of infrastructure development for solid waste management will be implemented in Moldova, under which garbage bins and containers for waste collection, as well as vehicles for their transportation will be bought. Sorting and composting stations will also be built and unauthorized waste dumps will be closed. As a result of the project implementation, Moldovan citizens will have access to quality solid waste management services, the amount of waste deposited will be reduced and the territorial coverage of solid waste management services will be increased in the regions where planned interventions will be carried out. // 15.02.2024 - InfoMarket.
