The European Investment Bank has allocated more than 1.19 billion euros for the implementation of 33 projects in Moldova and will continue to support it in order to accelerate its accession to the EU.

EIB President Werner Hoyer said that the European Investment Bank welcomes the European Council's decision to start accession negotiations with Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia as candidate countries. According to him, the EIB actively supports these three countries, having provided them with more than 10 billion euros of financing so far, and is ready to continue providing them with further support in the EU accession process. Werner Hoyer said the EU enlargement process has boosted economic growth and increased prosperity across the EU. "Enlargement will further strengthen the European project and the EIB, as an instrument for deepening European economic integration, is fully committed to working with Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia to accelerate their path to EU accession," he said. According to the EIB, since it started working in Moldova in 2007, the bank has allocated more than 1.19 billion euros to 33 projects, supporting EU policy objectives in various sectors: transport, energy, SMEs, agriculture and municipal infrastructure. 2022 was a record year for the EIB in Moldova: new loans worth 250 million euros were signed with the public sector. In 2023, the EIB provided its first corporate loan in Moldova, a $30 million project with Premier Energy Distribution, the private operator of the electricity distribution system in Moldova, aimed at improving the quality and reliability of the electricity grid. On December 15, the EIB signed a 42 million euros loan agreement to modernize Moldova's railway infrastructure, which will improve rail links between Moldova and Ukraine and boost trade. The investment is beneficial for both Ukrainian exports and the Moldovan economy, particularly in connection with the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes initiative." // 18.12.2023 - InfoMarket.
