
In Moldova: In Q2 2023, the total debt of the national economy amounted to 573 billion 852.8 million lei, up by 3.5% compared to Q1 2023.
The National Bank of Moldova provided these data, noting that the financial sector, due to its functions of financial intermediary, represents the sector with the highest total debt (42.6% of the total debt of the national economy). The sector of non-financial commercial companies accounts for 171 billion 652.4 million lei (29.9% of the total debt), while the sectors of public administration and households - 115 billion 865.9 million lei and 41 billion 648.2 million lei (20.2% and 7.3%, respectively). According to the National Bank's data, the ratio of the total debt of the national economy sectors to GDP as of June 30, 2023 amounted to 199.4%, which is by 3.1 percentage points higher than the corresponding indicator as of the end of the first quarter of 2023. The most significant increase in the corresponding indicator in the second quarter was registered in the financial companies sector, reaching 85% (+2.2 p. p.). In terms of financial instruments included in total debt, contracted loans accounted for the largest share in Q2 2023 (38.1%). The share of financial instruments in the total debt of each sector of the national economy is also correlated with the specifics of the sectors.
