Moldova to initiate negotiations with Romania on signing an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on the interconnection of the two countries' power grids.

A relevant decision was approved by the Moldovan Cabinet at a meeting on 4 October. In particular, it is planned to sign a memorandum between the Moldovan and Romanian governments on the implementation of projects needed for the interconnection of the two countries' gas and electricity networks. The Cabinet also approved the composition of the negotiating group for the preparation of the draft memorandum, which will include 12 representatives of state institutions and sectoral state enterprises, headed by Energy Minister Victor Parlicov. It is planned that the memorandum will enshrine concrete actions to increase the natural gas transportation capacities, as well as to study the possibilities to expand the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline by building a ring gas transportation pipeline in Chisinau by 2031. In the context of the recent synchronization of Moldova's electricity system with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity ENTSO-E, the memorandum will outline the implementation of the following projects: construction of the Suceava-Balti overhead transmission line (400 kV), extension of the stations in Suceava (400 kV) and Balti (400 kV), development of the Husi-Cioara and Tutora-Ungheni transmission lines. It is also planned to harmonize the primary and secondary regulatory framework regarding tax and customs regimes in the context of interconnection of energy markets. // 04.10.2023 - InfoMarket.
