The 22nd National Wine Day will take place in Moldova on October 7-8 under the slogan "Our wine wins over the world" with the participation of a record number of winemakers - about 100.
This was announced by the organizers of the event at a press conference on 2 October. Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture and Food Minister Vladimir Bolea said that the National Wine Day is always a holiday, especially as Moldova has a lot to be proud of in this field. Moldovan wines are exported to 75 countries all over the world. This year, a number of agriculture ministers from the EU countries will attend the event. The guests will visit the wine town downtown Chisinau, and then they will go to pick grapes in the vineyards. Only 90 countries in the world grow grapes, and Moldova is the 20th largest producer and 14th largest exporter of wine in the world. Moldova's wine industry contributes about 3% of GDP and 8% of total exports. The head of the Agriculture Ministry said that the wine industry managed to develop and modernize thanks to the opening of the National Vine and Wine Office (ONVV) 10 years ago. "I am convinced that the ONVV is a concrete way to develop business and promote the product. National Wine Day is cultural and educational in nature as we promote the moderate consumption of wine. The celebration will also be attended by 62 small wineries, small producers who deserve encouragement because they work from winter to late fall," said Vladimir Bolea. The organizers said that this year's festival will be attended by a record number of winemakers - 95, of which more than half will be small wineries. All of them will unite under the country brand "Wine of Moldova's. A Legend Alive". About 80 thousand visitors are expected at the Great National Assembly Square, 20 thousand at the wineries of the country. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the national wine brand "Wine of Moldova. A Legend Alive", as well as 10 years since the creation of the National Vine and Wine Office. As it was mentioned, Moldova became the most awarded country in Eastern Europe at international specialized competitions and won the award "Best Red Wine" in the world. The slogan of the event "Our wine wins over the world" is meant to confirm the place and role of Moldovan wine in penetrating various markets.
