The U.S. will provide Moldova with $300 million in grants to strengthen energy security, and USAID is asking Congress to increase the amount of assistance.
This was stated at a meeting held in Chisinau between Moldovan President Maia Sandu and USAID Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Erin McKee. According to the press service of the head of state, the sides discussed ways to modernize Moldova. Moldovan President expressed gratitude to the U.S. government for the development assistance Moldova has been receiving for more than three decades through USAID. The agency has financed many programs in agriculture, energy, education, culture, justice reform, anti-corruption and local development. Maia Sandu said the USAID-backed projects contribute to the development of the economy and support Moldovan entrepreneurs, helping them improve their potential to produce and export products to developed markets and increase their incomes. The officials also discussed how Moldova can become energy-independent by connecting the country to the European energy systems and diversifying the energy sources. To this end, the U.S. authorities will provide Moldova with $300 million in grant assistance, under an agreement signed on June 30, 2023. Maia Sandu welcomed USAID's request to the U.S. Congress to provide more assistance to Moldova. The head of state thanked USAID for its constant support and reiterated her firm commitment to continue transformations that ensure a prosperous and peaceful future for all citizens. // 13.07.2023 – InfoMarket
