The Romanian government has approved the implementation of projects to strengthen the interconnection of natural gas and electricity networks of Moldova and Romania.
According to Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă, these projects will be implemented with a Romanian grant of 100 million euros. He emphasized that Romania has always been and will be a supporter Moldova's energy security strengthening through its contribution to efforts to diversify energy sources and supply routes. Romanian government spokesman Dan Carbunaru said after the Cabinet meeting that Romania remains Moldova's strongest supporter and does so in a concrete and consistent manner. "Today, the government approved with its memorandum the decisions aimed at uniting the natural gas and electricity networks between Romania and Moldova. The important results that this cooperation has brought are known, especially in winter, when the support provided by Romania was of great importance for the citizens of Moldova in natural gas and energy supply. This is an additional reason to consolidate these efforts, and therefore, through this memorandum, additional works on the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau interconnection will be performed, and the works on the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will be extended by building a ring gas pipeline around Chisinau. As regards electric power, the goal is to interconnect the electric power systems between Moldova and Romania through investments of strategic importance, such as the 400-kW Suceava-Balti overhead line or the extension of the station between Suceava and Balti with the capacity of an interconnection line in the direction of Husi-Ciora. These are important projects that, I repeat, strengthen Romania's ability to support Moldova," the Romanian government spokesman said. // 18.05.2023 – InfoMarket
