Moldova for the first time received the right to export processed poultry meat and category A eggs (for consumption) to the EU.
This was announced by the government, noting that this is envisaged by the amendments to the EU and European Commission Implementing Regulations of March 24, 2021, published on March 9. “The decision of the European Commission is vry important and will contribute to the achievement of the priority national goal - market diversification for poultry meat producers from Moldova. At the same time, the decision of the European Commission indicates that the national system of official control, introduced by the National Food Safety Agency, is recognized by the European Union,” the Moldovan government said. They specified that the process of obtaining the right to export the relevant products from Moldova to the EU was complex and lengthy. It was preceded by an extensive exchange of information and technical consultations, audit missions both online and with the physical presence of European experts in Moldova, which reviewed the compliance of the national system, including the capabilities of the National Food Safety Agency at the central and territorial level and the degree of compliance of economic agents with EU requirements. According to government data, there are currently 43 poultry farms and about 227,000 individual poultry farms in Moldova, in which a total of about 6 million birds are raised. Also in Moldova there are 24 poultry slaughterhouses, which annually produce about 45 thousand tons of poultry meat, as well as 12 egg collection points, where about 253 million eggs are collected annually.
