
The World Bank (WB) downgraded its forecast for Moldova's GDP decline in 2022 from 0.4% to 1.5% and lowered its economic growth forecast for 2023 from 2.7% to 1.6%.
At the same time, the WB kept the forecast of Moldova’s GDP growth in 2024 at 4.2%. Such data are contained in the new World Bank's report "Global Economic Prospects" published in January 2023. It should be noted that in the previous WB report of June 2022, the experts forecast that Moldova’s GDP would decrease by 0.4% in 2022, while in the following 2 years the economic growth would be 2.7% and 4.2%, respectively. At the same time, in the Global Economic Prospects report of January 2023, the World Bank experts forecast a 1.5% decline in Moldova's economy in 2022, a 1.6% growth in 2023 and a 4.2% growth in 2024. As InfoMarket agency earlier reported, according to the latest forecasts of the International Monetary Fund, the decline in the economy of Moldova in 2022 will be 1.5%, and in 2023, GDP will grow by 1.5%. The Moldovan government announced earlier that in 2022, GDP is expected to fall by 3% - to 278.2 billion lei, and in 2023 - GDP to grow by 2% - to 308.8 billion lei.
