The U.S. will allocate Moldova about $80 million to assist the country in overcoming the energy crisis.

This was mentioned during the meeting, which Moldovan President Maia Sandu held with the U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm. The sides discussed the severe energy crisis that Moldova is experiencing and how the U.S. can help the country overcome it. The head of state noted that the war in Ukraine has a serious impact on Moldova's energy security, which is reflected in high energy prices and limited access to energy resources. At the same time, Maia Sandu said that for Moldova, energy independence means preserving democracy and the country's membership of the free world, especially in the current conditions marked by the war. Maia Sandu thanked for the support totaling about 80 million dollars announced by the U.S. to assist Moldova in overcoming the crisis. The head of state said that the country needs the development partners' support to create infrastructure in order to ensure the connection with the European energy networks, to diversify the energy sources and develop renewable energy sources, as well as to rethink the entire process of energy production, storage and consumption. Another strategic goal mentioned by the Moldovan President is achieving carbon neutrality as soon as possible, which is good for the environment and contributes to energy security. // 07.12.2022 - InfoMarket
