The National Wine Day will take place on October 1-2 in the central square of Chisinau after a 2-year break.
The 21st National Wine Day is organized by the National Vine and Wine Office (ONVV) with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and USAID Moldova. According to the ONVV executive director Elizaveta Breahna, this year a record number of participants were registered, 40% of them are small producers. For the first time a national tasting competition "Wine of Moldova 2022" will be organized during the holiday. It will take place on September 29-30 according to the rules of international wine contests developed by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV). The competition will select the best wines from local grape varieties, including varieties of new selection and European varieties, as well as the best alcoholic beverages of wine origin. Only 30% of the contestants will be awarded, and the winemakers contributing to the development of the wine industry will receive honorary diplomas for their services. At the festival itself there will be various master classes, tastings and a rich art program, and the country's wineries will open their doors to visitors. Guests of the event can already purchase a "visitor's book". On the basis of the "visitor's book’s" coupons they will be able to taste 11 wines during the 2 days of the celebration. Diana Lazar, head of the winemaking division of the USAID-funded Effective Agriculture in Moldova project, noted that the quality of Moldovan wines is improving annually, as evidenced by medals at important international competitions. Last year alone, Moldovan wines participated in 19 international competitions, winning 1,200 medals, of which 572 were gold. "This year, for the first time, we are inviting international experts to our home, so that they could be convinced of the quality of our wine. Every year Moldovan wineries send more than 60 million invitations to 60 countries of the world to discover Moldova. So our country becomes a cosmopolitan, with a global influence. Because these 60 million bottles which we export to more than 60 destinations are nothing but the proof of the talent, of the millenarian culture and of this particular dedication of our people," Diana Lazar emphasized. During the festival, the wineries of the country will open their doors to the public and will promote the culture of responsible and proper consumption of quality wine. This year the wine festival will be held under the slogan "My wine brings peace and turns hatred into love. //27.09.2022 - InfoMarket.
