Moldova spent $35.4 million (the equivalent of 641.6 million lei) to service its external public debt in the first quarter, down $20 million (36.1%) from the same period in 2021.

As noted in the materials of the Ministry of Finance, this was mainly due to a decrease in the amount intended for the repayment of principal debt, including the full repayment in 2021 of the first and second tranches of the loan provided by the Romanian government. At the same time, in January-March 2022, the largest share in the total servicing of Moldova's external public debt during this period came from such creditors as: International Development Association (IDA) - 31% ($10.9 million); EBRD - 24.6% ($8.7 million); Romanian government - 15.7% ($5.5 million); EIB - 12.1% ($4.3 million); German government - 5.2% ($1.8 million), etc. At the same time, $30.7 million (the equivalent of 557.8 million lei) were used to repay the main debt in the 1st quarter of 2022, which is by $19.8 million or 39.2% less than in the same period of the previous year. And for the payment of interest as part of servicing the external public debt for the first 3 months in 2022, $4.6 million (the equivalent of 83.8 million lei) was transferred, which is $0.1 million, or 2.6% less than in the same period in 2021. // 12.07.2022 – InfoMarket
