Moldova has received an additional 52 million euros from the EU to support long-term sustainability, reconstruction and reforms in the country.
Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita announced this while answering journalists' questions. Gavrilita said the money was earmarked for Moldova after the Moldova Support Conference held in Berlin on 5 April, which became an international platform for supporting the country. Natalia Gavrilita said the 52-million-euros-worth allocations from the European Commission were included in the last adjustment to the state budget, and will be used to increase the spending for schools, kindergartens, hospitals, in order to compensate the heating and other energy resources' costs. Prime Minister stressed that it is crucial for the Moldovan government to receive more direct budget support in the form of grants from development partners, so that it can increase budget spending to support families and entrepreneurs without increasing the budget deficit. "We are continuing discussions with partners and hope that we will have more good news in this regard," said Prime Minister.
